FibroWalk Idea

Leave Tom some comments about the FibroWalk here! Would you be able to walk it? How short should the route be? Could you help organize it? Have you taken part in other fundraising walks? If so, how was the experience? Was getting donations hard? Was a free T-shirt included? Where did the walk take place at? We are still in the brainstorming phase and need lots of input!

Next Meeting: November 25

Our next meeting will be November 25, from 6PM-8PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton (Oneida Street at Winnebago Street). We will have another speaker: chiropractor Dr. Vu Nguyen. He works at Strong Chiropractic in Neenah, and was recommended by a member.

Meeting Recap: October

We had our 1st guest speaker! Mike Buyze from East Wind Acupuncture in Appleton talked for the last hour, and told us about Eastern medicine concepts like energy meridians and chi, and how he finds his most successful patients to be those with a positive attitude. Our group is floating around the idea of doing a FibroWalk in spring. Each walker would collect donations and the money would be sent in to the National Fibromyalgia Association. The group is going to be buying a DVD for us all to watch together called Fibromyalgia: Show Me Where it Hurts.

Meeting Recap: September

At the September meeting, we learned that Tom will be able to get speakers for our group through his involvement with Leadership Against Pain. He is on the executive committee of this group, which is sponsored by the NFA (National Fibromyalgia Association). Tom is also planning on starting separate small groups which will meet on a different day, maybe every 2 weeks. In these small groups, people will be able to share more about how their lives have changed because of this illness. Confidentiality agreements will be signed. We also learned that we have a sister group starting up in Green Bay. If you know anyone who lives around there and has Fibromyalgia, let them know! Email Tom for more details. Also, some late-breaking exciting news: The Post-Crescent newspaper is planning on featuring our group in an article!

Speaker at the October Meeting: Acupuncturist

We will have a speaker at the October 28th meeting. Mike Buyze from East Wind Acupuncture will tell us about acupuncture, from 7PM-8PM. You can read about Mike on his website, AcupunctureAppleton.com.

It's on the corner of Oneida St. and Winnebago St. which is in between Wisconsin and College Avenues. We meet in one of the conference rooms in the building attached to the church. Park in the lot behind the church, enter the building and go up one set of stairs. Turn right and the room is about halfway down the hall, on your right.
